Irvington Historical Society, Irvington, NY
"McVickar" House

The McVickar House is home to the Irvington Historical Society, located on Main Street in Irvington, N.Y. The house dates back to 1853, and the interesting part of this project was working with spruce flooring that was 157 years old. The first and second floor was removed and re-laid, along with flooring taken from the third floor to make up the difference in material that was needed. Floors were sanded and refinished using one coat of Dura Seal golden brown stain and then three coats of satin tung oil applied.

Saint John the Evangelist School, Mahopac, NY

The gymnasium floor was refinished in the summer of 2005. It is approximately 3,815 square feet. One coat of Bona sealer was applied first. Then games lines were painted for 1 basketball court, one volleyball court, solid keys, and the logo of SJE. Then three coats of Bona Super sport Gymnasium waterbase urethane with a gloss finish were applied. The floor is recoated every year.

Westchester County Center, White Plains, NY

The Westchester County Center gymnasium floor is one of many major projects that the Savino Brothers have completed over the years. This "portable" gymnasium floor is 5,570 square feet. They are assembled in 4'x8' sections and there are approximately 174 sections, and they weight approx. 125 pounds each. This job was unique in the fact that it had to be disassembled for the urethane process so that each section did not bond to one another. We also refinished the main floor which is approximately 15,000 square feet and installed another 4,000 square feet in the "little theater" located on the second floor.

Chappaqua Train Station, Chappaqua, NY

Built in 1902 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This project was part of a complete restoration of the train station; Savino Brothers were the subcontractors for the refinishing of approximately 1,200 sq ft of maple flooring.

This homeowner wanted a simple inlay around the fireplace. The species of wood included Maple, Brazilian Cherry & Purple Heart.

The interesting part of this installation and what really makes this floor is the bending of the Oak & Padauk around the stair tread.

This 2nd floor hall contains Quartersawn White Oak in the field with Brazilian Cherry & quarter inch Maple feature strip. It give the look of a area rug only made out of wood.
